Stories in Blue: A Pilgrimage
Stories in Blue: A Pilgrimage to Heal Human Trafficking is an immersive art experience that presents the stories of modern day slavery through original music, photography, textiles, film and live theatrical performance. This groundbreaking piece, a time-based entry in ArtPrize 2016, features the true stories of trafficking survivors from West Michigan, breaking through the barrier of silence that surrounds the issue in our state.
Six actors will perform these stories as part of a daily pilgrimage of song, movement and poetic monologue; their journey mirroring the process of individual healing through repeated sharing of traumatic experience. Bringing this healing to the streets of Grand Rapids, Stories in Blue raises awareness and creates compassionate space for change.
The pilgrimage ends every evening at a multi-faceted art installation. Here, piercing imagery is a tangible reminder of the intense enormity of human trafficking. Through photography and film, the art installation illuminates additional angles of this complex issue that continues to cycle around us.
Everyday the pilgrimage ends at this site. And begins again.
We travel together, telling and receiving these Stories in Blue, on a path towards understanding and healing.
Come. Journey with us.
